Former Bermudian Springs baseball and golf coach Robert Bonner was charged Thursday with propositioning a 17-year-old female student for sex in 2011.
The alleged victim said Bonner called her out of a psychology final and handed her a piece of paper and told her to go to the end of the hall and read it, according to an affidavit of probable cause, which also said the hand-written note said Bonner wanted to have sex with her and his wife and asked if she were interested.
The Bermudian Springs board of education granted Bonner a sabbatical during its August meeting and approved his resignation in September. The events surprised former EaglesĀ shortstop Joe Dennison, who now attends York College.
“It was very surprising,” he said of hearing the news. “I did not see that coming from him at all. He did not come off that way. I heard rumors about it through people that were still in school. They heard stuff from other teachers and stuff.
“I was shocked at first. But then, I still look at him as a coach who coached the state championship team (in 2010) and a guy that was a great coach to me for the four years that I had him. He was teaching me to play the game I loved.”
